Have you thought about running? If you can get over the thought of having to replace your knees long before you hit 60, it is a great cardio workout. I have managed to keep off the seven pounds I lost last year by running a couple times per week, and I have less cellulite than before.
If you are interested, Heather from Pgh Mom started a new running site, IRunLikeaMother.com.
Good luck. I know how hard it is to stay away from treats. I did great during Lent, but I have picked up my sweet snacking with a vengeance since then.
I want to run - used to run - spent a lot of time around runners (my Dad was a lifetime runner and, yes, the knees bothered him in his 60's - though he would not blame the running - like a true runner ;-). I should bite the bullet and do it, shouldn't I? Joely at Neverending... is also a runner.... I'm surrounded by you guys. Maybe this is a sign... Thanks for the inspiration :-)!
Hoo-boy. I could use some of that myself. I've been lazy lately and it shows! Good luck!
Sherri, I am a self-conscious "trotter" - walk fast, trot, feel silly, repeat :) -but I try to go every day. I'm sure real running is much more efficient and less time-consuming.
Happy to report that my arms and butt are appropriately sore .. .because I am, so far, sticking to a pretty good routine. You know.... the other thing about running is getting time to do it.... and I literally do not have much back-up here, so ... most days, I'm stuck with one or more kid with me..... Working on it...
I have two dvd's called "Palm Pictures Presents a New York City Ballet Workout." It is like being in ballet class in the middle of your family room! Some of it reminds me of pilates, but they take you through a full ballet class. Fun for us former dancers! :)
