Catholic Charities

It appears the orphans in Haiti will be boarding a plane for the US very soon. Catholic Charities will be handling placement of the children. I have to admit - I have a little soft spot for Catholic Charities. I, myself, was adopted through the organization YEARS ago :-). My Mom tells me that they had me all dressed up for my big arrival (the social worker and his daughter drove me to my new parents in their own car), but that they asked if my parents could change me into a new outfit because they needed what I was wearing for another baby. Shoestring budget, I guess. Donations to all these organizations go a long way :-).

I have read a lot of good things about Catholic Charities. For as much as people bash Catholics, that organization does a lot of good for many people, regardless of their religion.

Yay! I've been following the Bresma thing for the past week and am so impressed by the power of social networking. Does Catholic Charities have their own foster families? I'm curious what they're going to do with the kids that don't have adoptive parents waiting. I really hope they are avoiding state placements. (I have a bit of a bias in that area.)

I have heard rumblings that they are placing children in foster homes through the Diocese of Pitt. For example, I heard a couple nights ago, of one family in our parish "on deck" to host a child until an adoptive family is available or able to take the child - infant or teen - didn't matter. Catholic Charities is pretty quick about placement as I understand it. We'll see....

I should add... that the news of the one willing host family should indicate that others who are willing and / or able will follow suit....

So ... here's a donation outlet specifically for the Bresma orphanage:

Keystone
161 Hazelwood Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15207

Bresma Orphanage in "notes" area if you are writing checks.

Children who arrived range in age from infants to 4 years old, I guess.
